Wallpaper installation done properly, room by room
Good wallpaper looks like it grew on the wall: no visible seams, no lifted edges, no pattern that drifts as it crosses the room. Getting there is mostly planning and prep, and that is where we spend our time. We hang traditional paste-the-wall and paste-the-paper wallpapers, non-woven, vinyl, pre-pasted and peel-and-stick, as well as the specialty materials on our grasscloth and mural pages.
Rooms we paper most often
- Powder rooms and bathrooms — small rooms with lots of cuts around vanities, mirrors and fixtures, where bold patterns shine.
- Bedrooms and nurseries — full rooms or a single headboard wall.
- Dining and living rooms — including walls with built-ins, wainscoting and chair rails.
- Entries, hallways, mudrooms and stairwells — long drops, many doors and tall walls that need proper ladders and planks.
- Home offices and accent walls — the wall behind your desk or the one you see on video calls.
- Laundry rooms and kitchens — with materials and primers chosen for humidity.
What's included
- Free on-site visit: we check the walls, measure, and confirm how many rolls you need for your pattern repeat
- Floor and furniture protection, outlet and switch cover removal
- Wall prep as needed: patching, sanding and wallcovering primer (see wall preparation)
- Layout planning so the pattern is centered on focal points and the last “kill” seam lands in the least visible corner
- Installation with the correct adhesive for your paper, seams rolled and wiped clean
- Precise trimming at ceilings, baseboards, windows, doors and fixtures; covers reinstalled
- Cleanup and a final walkthrough; leftover paper labeled and left with you for touch-ups
Our installation process
- Estimate and roll count. Send us the link to the wallpaper before you order. We calculate rolls from your wall measurements, the roll size and the pattern repeat, so you don't run short mid-job or end up with mismatched dye lots.
- Inspect the paper. On install day we check every roll for the same batch number and for printing defects before anything is cut.
- Prep and prime. Wallpaper shows everything underneath it. We fix dents and cracks, knock down heavy texture if needed and apply a wallcovering primer.
- Plumb, plan, hang. We snap a true plumb line, plan where seams fall, then hang strip by strip, matching the pattern and booking or relaxing the paper as the manufacturer requires.
- Trim and finish. Clean cuts at every edge, adhesive wiped from the face and the trim, and a final check under raking light.
What affects the price
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Wall area and number of rooms | More strips and more trimming time |
| Paper type | Grasscloth, silk, murals and unpasted papers take longer than pre-pasted vinyl |
| Pattern repeat and match | Large repeats and half-drop matches mean more planning and waste |
| Wall condition | Old paper, heavy texture or damage add prep time |
| Ceiling height and stairwells | Tall walls need scaffolding or planks |
| Cut-outs | Windows, doors, vanities and built-ins all add detail work |
We price each job individually after seeing it. The on-site estimate is always free and comes in writing.

Frequently asked questions
How many rolls of wallpaper do I need?
It depends on your wall measurements, the roll width and length, and the pattern repeat. Send us the link before you order — after the free on-site visit we'll give you an exact roll count, usually with one extra roll for future repairs.
Can you hang wallpaper over textured walls?
Light texture can often be smoothed with a skim coat before papering. Heavy orange-peel or knockdown texture should be skimmed flat first, otherwise it shows through thinner papers. We'll tell you what your walls need during the estimate.
Do you install peel-and-stick wallpaper?
Yes. Peel-and-stick needs a smooth, primed, fully cured wall to stick well and come off cleanly later, so prep still matters.
How long does it take?
A powder room is often done in one day; a large room or stairwell can take two or more, especially if walls need repair and primer drying time first.
